Dear prospective pupil,
Bradfield’s Education for Life aims to equip all of our pupils with the skills and attitude to confront future challenges with confidence.
In an ever-changing career landscape, our job at Horizons is to make sure that you are able to do precisely that.
What is the right career for me? What do I need to get there? You are likely to ask yourself at least one of these questions while you are here at Bradfield.
During your five years with us, you will make a number of important academic and career-defining choices from selecting your GCSEs to choosing whether to follow the A Level or the IBDP programme; and finally, whether to apply to university or join the world of work.
It does not take much strength to do things, but it requires great strength to decide on what to do.

Our open door policy means that we are always on hand to provide one to one advice whenever you need it, whether that is professional CV writing, interview practice, or personal finance and employment education. With three careers advisors and a Head of UCAS & Oxbridge, you have a wealth of experience and resources to tap into.
While most of our pupils opt to go to university in the UK, increasing numbers head overseas, particularly to the US. A small but growing number are also choosing to join the world of work, taking advantage of apprenticeship schemes and gaining valuable on-the-job experience free of student debt.
Whatever direction you choose, we will support you.
From the moment that you arrive in Faulkner’s (Year 9), we prepare you for the rigours of graduate assessment centre activities and get you to practise and refine those skills that will give you the edge in an increasingly competitive job market.
We aim to give you all of the information and tools you need to make informed choices but ultimately it is up to you to make the most of what Bradfield has to offer.
Starting with mini presentations in the first year, you will build on this experience in the Shell (Year 10) and take part in a Business Challenge where, in your teams, you will create an advertising campaign for a business and prepare and deliver a pitch to a panel of expert judges. Collaborating, working on a project as part of a team and delivering a product to a deadline are skills that you will find vital going into the Upper School, on to university and into the workplace.
Moving into the Sixth Form, we open your eyes to the myriad of career opportunities available to you. At our ‘Meet the Professionals’ evenings you will have the chance to network with individuals (many of whom are Old Bradfieldians) and get the inside track on how to make your way into a number of professions.
Bradfield’s annual Careers Fair in the Summer Term of the Lower Sixth attracts over 70 exhibitors from universities to the Army and large corporations offering further, ample opportunity for you to explore your options.
Through the Horizons Programme and together with your academic studies and co-curricular pursuits, you will naturally develop those soft skills to prepare you for life beyond Bradfield.
We aim to give you all of the information and tools you need to make informed choices but ultimately it is up to you to make the most of what Bradfield has to offer.
Thank you for your time and for considering Bradfield. We look forward to meeting you and helping you to fulfil your academic and career ambitions.
Yours sincerely,
Florence Everett, Head of Horizons
