I am going to describe to you four different people.
The first, Henry, really came out of his shell at Bradfield and ended up being Deputy Head of G House. He went to the University of Nottingham to study Economics and switched to Politics. He is now doing a Masters in Politics and International Relations. From his love of swimming he applied to be in the Paralympics but was unfortunately unsuccessful; he is now working for Sky Sports and pursuing his love of cycling, living in London.
No matter how much the teachers or buildings change, Bradfield’s foundations will always stay the same.
The second, Kate, hated public speaking but throughout her time at Bradfield thrived to become Head Girl where she spoke at her Leavers Service in front of 200 people. She started the College’s feminist NESKA Society, as well as girls’ football. She went onto study Economics at the University of Bristol, has just completed her PGCE and is working as a maths teacher in London. She has been travelling all over the world and loves taking on challenges like climbing up Kilimanjaro.
The second boy, Archie, is quiet, not great at team sports but at Bradfield found his love for swimming, golf and the gym. He is currently in his last year at the University of Bath studying Politics and International Relations and is planning to do a Masters. He found this love of Politics at Bradfield because of the amazing teaching. He was also Deputy Head of G House. He is not sure what he wants to do yet, but has a very keen interest in the environment and thinks he might want to do something looking at sustainability. He also loves travelling and has just completed the Mongol Rally.
Bradfield is a school for everyone, no matter your personality traits. It helps you to come out of your shell and strive for success.
The second girl is chatty but does not like public speaking. However, her teachers have encouraged her to move out of her comfort zone and speak publicly on many occasions. Not naturally a clever person, she works quite hard and is pushed by her teachers to do better and go from a B to an A. She never thought she could sing but again her teachers encouraged her to try singing and last year she received a Grade 5 with Merit. Her love of Photography and Art means that she hopes to take History of Art at the University of York after her gap year.
These four people are myself and each of my siblings who have been at Bradfield at various points over the last 13 years. The last one is me. I have grown so much as a person and Bradfield has provided me with opportunities I never would have thought I could have, such as going to Borneo on a volunteering project where my passion for the environment started. I am now hoping to join the Youth4Nature scheme in Canada.
You are probably looking at the school fees thinking ‘wow’ that is a lot but my Dad would say that every penny was well spent. My point is that Bradfield is a school for everyone, no matter your personality traits. It helps you to come out of your shell and strive for success.
My family is an example of the fact that no matter how much the teachers or buildings change, Bradfield’s foundations will always stay the same. We might not have been the best at sport or the strongest academically – not everyone is an A* pupil, is in the first team for sports or receiving Grade 8 distinctions at Music. Bradfield helps people to become the best version of themselves.
