Last Friday (17 February), we had Pupil Takeover Day where for the entire day pupils take control and are given the responsibility and opportunity to experience what it is like to teach a class, coach a sport or lead an activity.

This year saw pupils from all year groups take over almost every facet of College life from shepherding people safely across the road as crossing guards, to leading the morning Chapel service and beyond.

Our Head Boy and Girl kicked off the day by stepping into the Headmaster’s shoes to give notices to members of staff with Harry Kinnings delivering a particularly convincing performance.

Elsewhere, pupils coached and ran their own hockey sessions, acted as librarians while others delivered pre-planned lessons to their classmates with teachers taking a backseat and answering the questions for a change.

Some of our prefects also took over the College’s social media accounts for the day giving a unique insight into their experiences and what they learnt. Play the video to see what they got up to.

Here’s what a few of our pupils (and teachers) took away from the day.

Highlight of the day has definitely been Emma Capra (M) and Kate Boudkhina (M) taking over UVI Economics. Terrific!’ #masterclass
Mr. Beith
It’s been nice to learn more about my own confidence around my peers.
Alejandra (L)
The girls in Palmer (I) have really thrown themselves into today. Cassandra Shutter for example will be taking call this evening, I love it!
Elizabeth (I)
I have found the day to be a refreshing take on traditional education!
Anneka Morrison (J)
I’ve learn about management, categorising books is always a useful skill, so now I know that if I ever wanted to be a librarian I could.
Niels (L)
It’s actually really fun to be able to take control, I’ve learnt a lot about how to manage larger groups of people, which isn’t something I expected.
